Today was a day off, I got to sleep in until 8:30 and then I went to guitar center for 3 hours. Considering that was my third time at guitar center in a week, and that I've spent a combined total of 10 hours there and haven't bought anything yet, they probably don't like me too much. Coming from Durango, the biggest music store I'd ever been to was Katzin Music until this week. It's safe to say that I was totally captivated by Guitar Center and everything they have to offer. After Guitar Center I went to the GCU campus and shot lacrosse and threw the frisbee for 2 hours. After lunch Matt and I, (Riley's boyfriend) went to throw the football for about an hour before he had to leave. From there we went home and hung out for a bit and then went to a see the new movie 10 Cloverfield Lane. That concluded the great day in AZ.
Today was simple, I came into the office around 9 o'clock and sat down at my desk and talked to Danny about what today would look like. Initially, Danny told me had had a lot of things on the docket for the day and that I would be flying solo for most the time. Danny had a song writing session early in the morning and because I am writing a song for my LINK project I figured I'd take that time to work on my own song. I worked until around noon on my song and wrote down some other ideas in case that song didn't work out. I ended up getting two verses and the chorus done. When I finished writing I had a really great conversation with one of the new worship leaders named Onaje. It was great to hear his perspective on the whole worship scene and what makes him love his job so much. After speaking with Onaje I was done for the day so I went to guitar center for 3 hours to kill some down time. That place is literally my favorite place on earth. If I go to college anywhere near a guitar center I will work at guitar center no question.
Today was jam packed full of awesome stuff. It started with my mentor and I at Starbucks and him locking himself out of his car, and it only got better from there. At 10:00 AM I got to sit in for the keyboard information meeting with all of the CCV Residents and I got to learn all about the production and the technical side of what professional keys players are do. Especially their programs they use when they are mixing and matching sounds and pads on their laptops as they play live. I learned a lot about how not to play too much and how it is much better to promote the entire service with your instrument than to single yourself out and seek attention. After that meeting we went to lunch in the church cafeteria and I ate while working on my laptop and Danny had a lunch meeting to go to. After lunch we went back to the office and Danny scheduled me to play a bunch of youth services/shows for this weekend. I will have to spend some time preparing for those shows so that everything goes well. Then Jordan asked me to come sing some group vocals in the studio with a bunch of the other worship leaders for his new EP. That was a blast, I had a lot of fun singing those group lines with everyone. After that I played guitar for a bit and got ready for the nights youth rehearsal. We only played 2 songs last night for the youth rehearsal but it was pretty fun but wasn't as great as I had hoped it would be. Overall it was one of my best days ever for my second day of internship. I can't wait to see what else is in store for me this week and over the next few weeks.
Today was my first day with Christ's Church of the Valley. Today gave me a pretty good perspective of what I will be doing while I am here these next few weeks. I went to several meeting's with Danny and went over what types of things he and his crew do on a weekly basis. I went to a meeting that debriefed Sunday's worship services for all of CCV's 6 campuses. The meeting had every different worship pastor from each location and they discussed what went well and what didn't for their team in the production of the worship for the first Sunday that I was there. Earlier in the day the youth worship leaders did the same type of meeting. I also got to sit in for a long recording session for a worship demo from worship leader Ben Gowell. That was really interesting to sit in the recording booth and get to see everything that is put into their high level productions. From there I went to Guitar Center for the first time and stayed there for 4 hours, it blew my mind. Overall it was a great first day.
